As we continue our journey through Washington Wine Month, we are always scouring the state for exciting and noteworthy new projects. A new Washington winery, Sin Banderas was founded by four friends from different parts of the world. They all met in Yakima while working together at Owen Roe. The wine is made at the Owen Roe custom crush facility. Sin Banderas winemaker Jacki Evans is originally from Texas and studied Biology at the University of Texas in Austin. She has over 10 years of winemaking experience with 15 harvests around the world, including Napa Valley of California, Willamette Valley of Oregon, the Great Southern of Western Australia, Barossa Valley of South Australia, Burgenland, Austria, and Marlborough, New Zealand.  She's been in the Yakima Valley of Washington State making wine with Owen Roe Winery since the 2013 vintage. 

The new red wine by Sin Banderas was very good, coming from the warm, 2015 vintage. This wine made from largely Syrah shows a wonderful red and dark fruit character, with a lovely mouthfeel. This project winery is an exciting endeavor that will only continue to produce high quality bottlings. 2015 Sin Banderas Red Wine- The 2015 Sin Banderas Red Wine is a blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre sourced from the Yakima Valley. Needing an hour to settle in the decanter, the wine starts with aromas of smoked meats, tar, and red cherry preserves. Forward and fruity on the palate, the wine shows off a nice combination of red and dark fruits with milk chocolate flavors. The balanced wine will cellar well over the next decade.
