Massican has an electric new lineup of white wines.

Massican

July 7, 2025

An electric brand out of Napa, Massican began back in 2009. The brand is the brainchild of innovator and winemaker Dan Petroski, who sought to make old-world inspired white wines in the Napa Valley where Cabernet is unabashedly king. These wines continue to be affordably priced, where entry level Chardonnays in Napa command 100 dollars and sometimes more. For years Dan made world-class wines at Larkmead which rivaled some of the finest wines of the region — at a fraction of the price of cult competitors.

These wines have been impressive regardless of vintage. It is no surprise that Dan sold his winery to Gallo in September 2023. This is going to be an electric brand for them. Look to the gorgeous 2024 Massican ‘Gemina’ White Wine (OB,95) which is a stunning combination of indigenous Italian varietals, mainly Greco. This is a truly unique, world-class wine. Learn more about these novel, one of a kind wines at massican.com Here are my reviews of the gorgeous new Massican wines.

2024 Massican Pinot Grigio- The really good 2024 Massican Pinot Grigio is fresh and vibrant on the palate, offering a smooth mouthfeel with layers of kiwi, mango and wet stone alongside lemon blossom water. Quite complex and delicious, enjoy now. Drink 2025-2031- 92

2023 Massican Sauvignon Blanc- The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc was sourced from locations in Sonoma and Napa. It delivers lemon oil and peach pit flavors that collide with copious minerals and shades of cantaloupe on the palate. The combination of minerality and concentration here really shines through. Enjoy now and over the next few years. Drink 2025-2031- 93

2024 Massican ‘Gemina’ White Wine- The 2024 ‘Gemina’ is a unique blend of mainly Greco and Falanghina with a touch of Fiano. The name is inspired by an ancient varietal that dates back to the first century AD, called Aminea Gemina. This is dazzling on the tongue, showing insanely good flavor range from lychee and macadamia nut to salted peach, lemon rind and suggestions of honeydew melon. Gorgeous now, with serious weight and tension, alongside salty nuances, enjoy over the next eight to ten years. Drink 2025-2033- 95

2024 Massican ‘Annia’ White WIne- The 2023 ‘Annia’ is mainly comprised of Tocai Friulano (35%", Ribolla Gialla (42%), with Chardonnay (17%) and the remainder Pinot Grigio. This is lively with bright acidity and a silky mouthfeel. Salty and savory on the mouth, the freshness brings you back to the glass for more enjoyment. Green apple and pear flavors mingle well with nutty nuances and sea salt dusted pastry on the palate. Drink 2025-2031- 93

2024 Massican ‘Hyde’ Chardonnay- The 2024 ‘Hyde’ Chardonnay comes from plantings that date all the way back to1979. Saline-drenched pear and peaches combine with macadamia nut and mango accents. Very complex, round and generous on the tongue, with really good length, enjoy this beauty now and over the next six plus years. Drink 2025-2031- 94
