Chateau Climens

February 25, 2017

One of the most esteemed estates in Barsac, Chateau Climens has gained a worldwide reputation for producing some of the choicest dessert wine.  The chateau is located on the left bank of the Garonne, in Graves region in the south-west of Bordeaux, The Grands Crus from Sauternes and Barsac were classified in 1855 at the same time as the Grands Crus from Médoc. Château Climens belongs to the First Classed Growths of 1855.

Within the Sauternes appellation, the small village of Barsac is the is primarily set on limestone soils which yields a wonderful freshness and balance to the wines. Chateau Clemens estate is a 30 hectares property situated on the appellation’s highest land where limestone outcrops are abundant.

Intense, sexy, and downright opulent, I recently had the great pleasure to try one of the great wines of the world that i have sampled in the past year, the decadent and completely intoxicating 2005 Chateau Climens. This is literally perfection in a bottle, as the combination of balance, terroir, viscosity and tension with the scintillating range of aromatics and flavors is just off the charts. There are truly no words to describe this wine. I did my best. Learn more about this compelling estate in the Bordeaux region at http://www.chateau-climens.fr/en/

Here is my review of the 2005 Chateau Climens:

2005 Chateau Climens- The 2005 Chateau Climens is a perfect wine. At this juncture it is literally perfection in a bottle. Unctuous, intense, and simply gorgeous, this perfumed wine has aromatics of quince, creme brulee, bananas foster, candied mango and baking spices. The wine has dense flavors of vanilla creme brulee, roasted pineapple, ripe mango, and sweet marcona almond purée. Seductive,  complete and gorgeous, this is one of the finest Sauternes I have sampled in the past five years. This has the structure, weight and intensity to cellar for another 40 years. Drink 2017-2057- 100
