Gran Moraine utilizes the talents of winemaker Shane Moore

An outstanding Oregon winery, Gran Moraine takes its name from the cataclysmic floods that occurred in the northern Willamette Valley of Oregon during the last ice age. As the flood waters receded, they sculpted the region, leaving a distinct pattern of small indentations or mini valleys (moraines)—much like the Côte ’Or in Burgundy. Gran Moraine has 220 acres are planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA which is largely marine sedimentary-based soils in the greater Willamette Valley.

Head winemaker Shane Moore heads this project. Look for the 2014 Gran Moraine Pinot Noir (WWB, 93) which is a wine of elegance, poise and wonderful range. This is definitely one who enjoy the elegant, red fruit driven style of Oregon Pinot Noir. 2014 Gran Moraine Chardonnay- This Yamhill-Carlton bottling opens with a bright bouquet of nutmeg, lemon meringue, vanilla cream and toasted hazelnuts. This has a rich mouthfeel, showcasing creme brulee, ripe banana and brioche with heavy whipping cream flavors. This balanced Chardonnay will cellar beautifully for a decade or more. 2014 Gran Moraine Pinot Noir- This great Yamhill-Carlton wine begins with rather intoxicating bright aromatics reminiscent of black truffle, forest floor, cigar box, red cherry and red currant. The mouthfeel is gorgeous here as the wine displays red cherry pie, red raspberry preserves, white truffle oil and suggestions of blood orange rind flavors. Hugely complex and inviting right now, this gorgeous Pinot Noir wine will drink well for a decade or more. Drink 2017-2028- 93
