Zena Crown Vineyard

September 3, 2019

One of the beautiful sites in the Willamette Valley, the Zena Crown Vineyard is a sight to be seen. The vineyard is located on a southwest-facing slope, set on volcanic soils, and also parallel to some of the great, historic vineyards of the Eola-Amity Hills In 2013 Jackson Family Wines purchased this beautiful site and has since served as single vineyard designate wines by producers  like Beaux Frères, Soter, and Penner-Ash. Zena Crown relies on the winemaking talents of Shane Moore who has a longstanding history in the Pacific Northwest wine industry. Graduating from Washington State University with a BS in Horticulture and a focus on Enology and Viticulture in 2008, Shane served as a cellar rat throughout his college years, and then worked for wineries around the globe—in Canada, in Western Australia, and in Israel’s Golan Heights. Shane met his future wife, Claire, while working harvest in Margaret River in 2010, and the pair soon returned to her native Sonoma County in California. Shane joined the Jackson Family Wines team in 2011 as an enologist specializing in Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, and in 2013 he returned to the Pacific Northwest to assume the role of Winemaker for Zena Crown. His new wine, the 2015 Zena Crown Vineyard ‘The Sum’ Pinot Noir (WWB, 93) is a spectacular effort that has wonderful richness and terroir. This is a must buy for any serious collector of great Oregon Pinot Noir. Learn more about these beautiful wines at https://www.zenacrown.com Here is my review of the new 2015 Zena Crown Pinot Noir.

2015 Zena Crown Vineyard ‘The Sum Pinot Noir- The 2015 Zena Crown Vineyard Pinot Noir underwent 50% whole cluster fermentation and is sourced from vines set on Jory soils. The nose shows really good range from blood orange zest to nutmeg to shades of white truffle that all excite in the glass. The silky texture glides through the mid-palate. Showing copious red and dark fruits with wild mushroom, this beautiful wine is drinking marvelously now but will have a long life in the cellar. Drink 2019-2035- 93
