Pambrun

December 8, 2020

One of the exciting brands that Willamette Valley Vineyards offers, Pambrun utilizes top class Walla Walla Valley fruit to produce their Bordeaux style wines. The winery utilizes the talents of Sadie Drury at their nineteen acre Pambrun Vineyard, which is planted in the SeVein project. The region has a unique microclimate, rugged terroir, high elevation and both loess and fracture basalt soils, and the Pambrun Vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot.

Winemaker Mark Leahy has some deep experience in the industry, working in nine different winemaking regions in four countries, before settling in the Walla Walla Valley. The wines are concentrated with good richness but a great err of tension. Look to the 2017 Pambrun ‘Chrysologue’ Red Wine (OB, 92) which shows nice concentration and good range. I love the 2017 Pambrun Cabernet Sauvignon (OB, 92) which has an err of hedonism and good length. Learn more about this great winery project at https://www.pambrunwines.com Here are the outstanding new wines by Pambrun.

2017 Pambrun ‘Chrysologue’ Red Wine- Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon (75%) with small potions Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this shows ripe kirsch with red bell pepper and exotic spice tones that all mingle in the glass. The palate is silky and elegant with a seamless texture. Ripe red currants march on with a deep core of dark fruits, pipe tobacco and dark chocolate shavings on the palate. The combination of freshness and richness shows some serious aging potential. Drink 2020-2035- 92

2017 Pambrun Merlot- The 2017 Pambrun Merlot shows toasty oak with dark currants, smoke and blackberry compote on this great bouquet. The palate is soft and elegant with a great sense of mouthfeel and weight. Layers of ripe dark fruits collide with chocolate cake and coffee grounds on the palate. Drink 2020-2032- 92

2017 Pambrun Cabernet Sauvignon- Black Forest cake, tobacco leaf and creme de cassis tones all fill the nose. The palate is soft, round and generous, unveiling a great sense of texture. Rich cassis, sagebrush and scorched earth tones combine with blackberry cordial on the palate. Great to savor in its youth, the 2017 Pambrun Cabernet Sauvignon has some really good aging potential. Drink 2020-2032- 92
