I love wineries that have a cautious eye for the environment. Planet Oregon is a value production winery by Soter that includes wines from sustainably farmed grapes. The winery also monitors carbon emissions, energy use, and waste production in crafting their sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. Soter donates a portion of wine profits from the sale of Planet Oregon wines to the Oregon Environmental Council.
Both their sparkling wine and Pinot Noir are exceedingly reasonably priced at $24.00. I found both to be downright awesome values. While not highly complex or nuanced, the 2020 Planet Oregon Rose Sparkling Wine (OB, 90) delivers soft red fruits with a great sense of mousse. Just as good is the 2019 Planet Oregon Pinot Noir (OB, 90) which is a killer value with its red fruit profile. 2020 Planet Oregon Rose Sparkling Wine- This shows pretty cherry and cranberry flavors alongside shades of watermelon and tobacco leaf. Well-structured with a soft mousse, this is really good stuff to enjoy now as I don’t see this improving with bottle age. Drink 2021-2024- 90
2019 Planet Oregon Pinot Noir- This reveals a plush texture with plenty of ripe and sour red fruits alongside mineals, tilled soils and stony undertones. Plush and nicely textured, this killer value Pinot Noir another eight years ahead of it. Drink 2021-2029- 90
