Here are the outstanding new releases by Chateau Montelena.
It is my pleasure to share the famed wines of Chateau Montelena — founded all the way back in 1888 and originally named A.L. Tubbs winery after its founder Alfred Tubbs. Roughly 100 years later in 1976 the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay was judged against four white Burgundy wines. In a massive upset, the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay won the Judgement of Paris, being voted the top wine of the tasting. This was a landmark achievement for California wines, as French wines were typically viewed as considerably superior to California wines. Check out the powerful 2023 ‘The Montelena Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon (OB, 95) showing amazing concentration with terrific texture. 2023 Chateau Montelena ‘The Montelena Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon- The stunning 2023 Chateau Montelena ‘The Montelena Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon is an awesome wine from this slightly cooler vintage. It shows excellent restraint, offering really nice non-fruit character at its core. Mocha, tar and allspice dusted black fruits all mark the nose. The palate is soft and inviting with a refined texture and really good sense of poise. Wet rock and loamy soil character combine with shades of wild mushroom, dark currants and fresh sage on the palate. This is wonderfully earthy stuff that has a long way in the cellar to go.
