Here is the gorgeous vineyards at Caparzo.

Caparzo

September 15, 2021

One of the storied properties in Brunello di Montalcino, I had the opportunity to visit this glorious estate a few years back during winter. Caparzo is one of Brunello’s most recognized brands in the United States. You can usually find this Brunello at Costco or many restaurants throughout the states. I have long admired these wines for their approachability young. When I visited the estate I had a chance to taste many older wines, as these are also really built to age.

Caparzo has a longstanding history as a farm but many innovations were made to the brand beginning in 1998 when Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini purchased Caparzo. She immediately carried out her objectives: combine tradition with innovation to create a high-quality wine, expression of an excellent territory, with the help of her son, Igino, and daughter, Alessandra.

The new wines were beautiful and I particularly admired their new 2016 Brunello di Montalcino (OB, 92) which is glorious and approachable even in its youth. This beauty will cellar well over the next fifteen years. Learn more about this outstanding Tuscan estate at http://www.caparzo.it/mobile-eng.html and here are the outstanding new releases by Caparzo.

2019 Caparzo ‘Toscana IGT’ Sangiovese- This forward and delicious Sangiovese shows ripe red cherry, plum and red currant flavors alongside good viscosity and weight. This is fruity yet refined Sangiovese that has another five to seven years of life ahead of it. Drink 2021-2026- 90

2016 Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino- Very pretty red fruits march on with tobacco leaf, leather, and orange rind tones on the palate. Medium-bodied and showing a good acid backbone, this outstanding and forward new Brunello is great to enjoy over the next ten to twelve years. Drink 2021-2033- 92
