Today we share one of the legends of Washington wine. Chris Figgins is one of the great talents of the Pacific Northwest, taking over for his father at Leonetti Cellar back in 2002. What was originally a wheat farm, the 32 acre Figgins Estate Vineyard was first planted in 2004 is set at 1750 feet. This site will soon have a full cave built that I can’t wait to check out. The first vintage of FIGGINS was 2008 and the wines from the vineyard just get better and better. Over time Chris wanted to make a world class Riesling and over the years he has succeeded in creating some of the finest Rieslings you will find in the state.
Made in the Trocken style, the Riesling is bone dry and is beautifully textured in the Grosses Gewachs style with serious texture. Do not miss out on the scintillating 2021 Figgins Estate Riesling (OB, 93) is a ‘Trocken’ style wine that has an opulent mouthfeel, reminiscent of a great Rheingau Grosses Gewachs. This wine has great cellaring potential. Learn more about these beautiful wines at http://www.figginswine.com and here is my review of the gorgeous new Riesling by Figgins Estate.
2021 FIGGINS Riesling- One of the finest Riesling bottlings you will taste in Washington, the 2021 FIGGINS Riesling revels in its golden hue once in the glass. Shades of petrol, wet stone and salted green apple combine with kumquat blossom on the nose. The palate is beautifully textured, with serious minerality and viscosity. Layers of white peach, ginger, Japanese pear and sourdough bread combine with flinty underpinnings. Seriously good to consume now, this will have a long life ahead of it, gaining earthy and nutty tones as it cellars. Drink 2022-2030- 93
