A slightly newer Toro outpost, producing really high quality wines, Elias Mora began back in 2000. The winery was founded by winemaker Victoria Benavides and is named after the former owner of the vineyard, Elias Mora. Spanning 16 hectares of vineyards and including farming and harvest Benavides pulls from a total of 70 hectares. Vines are trained in the traditional vaso or goblet shape, which yields ideal results but requires extra work, by hand, for harvest and pruning. Some of their vines in the Senda de Lobo area are 80+ years old.
The wines are seriously good across the board. I loved the 2019 Elias Mora ‘Crianza’ Toro (OB, 93) which is very dense and heady with some good aging potential. I was totally blown away with their top wine the 2017 Elias Mora ‘La Senda de Los Lobos’ Toro (OB, 96) which is very hearty and intense with beautiful freshness and concentration.
