A winery that honors Native American traditions, Meyye Wines was founded by Rob Campbell who is a member of the Coastal Miwok/Southern Pomo tribe. “I may be the only Native American winemaker who also owns his own label” Campbell noted. Each wine has different birds that are honored. “I’m intentionally using the Coast Miwok language since the language was considered ‘officially dead’ in the past” he said.
After serving as winemaker for Robert Story for 11 years, Campbell wanted to start his own winery. The wines he made were seriously good, having a beginning, middle and an end. I adored the 2020 Meyye Wines ‘Kuluppis’ Chardonnay (OB, 92) which shows off this special site and offers beautiful balance and texture. Learn more about these at meyyewines.com and here are my reviews of the new Meyye Wines.
