I won’t forget my first Georges de Latour. One of the great historic Napa estates, Beaulieu Vineyard began in 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard — and she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." De Latour saw the potential of the land and sold his thriving cream of tartar business, purchasing the four-acre ranch and later founding Beaulieu Vineyard. I have really loved the ‘Georges de Latours’ from the mid-90s which at the time were some of the best of Napa. Winemaker Trevor Durling is making some incredible wines. Originally from Sonoma County, Trevor has a degree in viticulture and enology from the esteemed University of California, Davis.

2021 Beaulieu Vineyard ‘Georges de Latour’ Cabernet Sauvignon- The 2021 ‘George de Latour’ is a beautiful follow-up to the outstanding 2020 which is one of the brilliant wines of the vintage. This is inky and dark in the glass, revealing in its loamy soil character on the nose, alongside violets, and Black Forest cake. The palate is wonderfully gratifying in terms of power, length and weight, with bright underlying acidity. Everything is clockwork here, with plenty of damp earthy character and a loaded core of black and blue fruits. Usually this wine needs time but it is really hitting its stride right out of the gate. This will easily be a 20 year wine. Drink 2024-2046- 98
