Here are the beautiful new wines by Bodegas Valdemar.

Bodegas Valdemar

April 16, 2025

For years I would purchase the wines of Conde Valdemar ‘Reserva’ bottlings and fondly recall buying many of the 2005 and 2006 wines which clearly overdelivered for the price. Jesús Martínez Bujanda Mora now represents the fifth generation of his family’s 130-year-old wine business. Bodegas Valdemar represents a great past as In 1889, Joaquin Martínez Bujanda began the family winemaking tradition in Oyón, a small town in Northern Spain. His son, Marcelino, and his grandson, Jesús, followed in his footsteps. Jesús' son, Don Jesús Martínez Bujanda, created Bodegas Valdemar in the 1980s.

The new wines were excellent and were very well-structured. I really enjoy the 2015 Conde Valdemar ‘Gran Reserva’ Rioja (OB, 93) which has some great aging potential and is currently displaying some really good flavor range. Learn more about this special winery project at https://www.valdemarestates.com Here are the beautiful new wines by Conde Valdemar.

2021 Conde Valdemar ‘Finca Alto Cantabria’ Viura- The really good 2021 Conde Valdemar ‘Finca Alto Cantabria’ Viura offers peach and nutmeg drenched French bread on the nose with shades of marzipan and stony minerals. The palate is plump, round and generous with great acidity and a smooth mouthfeel. Lovely salty and stony tones complete this outstanding Viura which is drinking in a great spot right now. Drink 2025-2033- 94

2017 Bodegas Valdemar ‘Reserva’ Rioja- The 2017 ‘Reserva’ by Bodegas Valdemar shows uo inky in the glass, offering an excellent combination of depth and poise. Black plum, soy sauce and wild blackberry tones mingle well with orange rind and sandalwood on the palate. Smooth and soft, enjoy now and over the next decade. Drink 2025-2035- 92

2015 Bodegas Valdemar ‘Gran Reserva’ Rioja- The 2015 ‘Gran Reserva’ was stored for 32 months in French oak before bottling. Coming from their estate vineyards, this delivers deep dark fruits that mingle well with refined tannins, Hoisin sauce, blood orange zest and salty minerals on the palate. Gorgeous now, enjoy over the next decade or more. Drink 2025-2037- 93
