It my pleasure to share the outstanding wines of Open Claim. Founded in 2014 by Marnie and Brett Wall, Open Claim creates a bigger style of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are complete wines with a beginning, middle and end. They use a limited amount of new oak, despite their fleshy character. There is little doubt that Tony Rynders is of the Pacific Northwest’s great winemakers Formerly with Hogue and Domaine Serene, Tony crafts some incredible wines for his own label, Tendril. He has been the winemaker at Open Claim and is doing an incredible job with this site.
The wines come from the cooler 2022 vintage. I love the 2022 Open Claim ‘Flora’s Veil’ Pinot Noir (OB, 96) which is amongst the finest I have tasted from this house. 2022 Open Claim Chardonnay- Rich, sultry and gorgeous from this slightly cooler vintage, the 2022 Open Claim Chardonnay is best served on the warmer side. Rich buttered French bread combines with Meyer lemon oil, mango, kumquat rind and suggestions of shortbread on the palate. Dense and also very nervy, with serious length and texture, enjoy now and over the next fifteen years to come. Drink 2025-2040- 95
2022 Open Claim ‘Flora’s Veil’ Pinot Noir- The 2022 ‘Flora’s Veil’ is a stunning Pinot Noir coming from the Mount Pisgah region of the Willamette Valley. Wafts of white truffle combine with salty minerals, wild blackberry compote and shades of menthol all mark the nose. The palate is deep and concentrated despite the coolness of the vintage. A total stunner, loaded with bright red and dark fruits, with a luxurious texture, this is drinking marvelously in its heady youth. Drink 2025-2045- 96
