One of the great historic wineries of Napa, I have had so many fond visits to Corison over the years. Cathy Corison has a knack for crafting ridiculously good wines in tough vintages. I think maybe this is true more than any Napa winemaker. She is without a doubt one of the famed women in wine and a California wine icon. Corison is a master’s degree graduate of the Enology program at UC Davis and has previously served as Chappellet winemaker prior to starting her own winery. For years Corison has implemented a trademark more Bordelaise, and restrained style to her Napa wines. These are wines that push power and restraint, with bright acidity.
Her 2021 wines were incredible. I am very impressed with what she accomplished in 2022, a vintage that is negatively impacted by heat spikes at harvest. I love her 2022 ‘Napa Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon (OB, 95) which is fresh but also round and generous on the mouth. This is already drinking beautifully. 2022 Corison ‘Napa Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon- A downright killer wine from a challenging vintage, the 2022 Corison ‘Napa Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon is drinking beautifully now. Round and generous on the tongue, with good freshness, this offers a dense core of dark cherry and roasted fig flavors alongside espresso bean, loamy soils and shades of menthol on the palate. This is just a sensational effort in ’22. Drink 2025-2038- 95
