Russell Bevan crafted some incredible ‘23s for PerUs.

PerUs

August 6, 2025

I have long been a fan of the wines by Russell Bevan. Today we present PerUs which is is an ultra-premium producer of red wines out of Napa, sourcing from some great vineyards including Sugarloaf Mountain and Edcora Vineyard (high elevation site). PerUs was founded by Anmol Bhandari who was born and raised in New Delhi, immigrated to the United States and built a successful career in finance – initially at Goldman Sachs and later co-founding Cians Analytics based in New York – a company that provides research and analytical support to international financial institutions. Anmol was introduced to Dustin Wilson, Master Sommelier, and they both would travel to the Napa Valley to research both vineyards and winemakers. Dustin introduced Ammol to Russell Bevan, one of the world’s great winemakers. PerUs only made 30 cases in their first vintage, 2013. They make a great range of full-throttle wines.

I was amazed by the new wines that are silky and concentrated. They show even better than the ‘22s. I love the 2023 PerUs ‘Janeen’ Cabernet Sauvignon (OB, 97) which is big and bold with terrific acidity and depth. Learn more about this famed boutique winery at https://www.peruswine.com/pages/home.php Here are the stunning new releases by PerUs.

2023 PerUs ‘Janeen’ Cabernet Sauvignon- The 2023 ‘Janeen’ is a stunning wine that is all Cabernet Sauvignon coming from the Sage Ridge Vineyard. This opens with a gorgeous bouquet of black cherry compote and mocha alongside black rose petals and shades of anise. A total show-stopper, enjoy now and over the next fifteen plus years to come. Drink 2025-2042- 97

2023 PerUs ‘Lyla’ Red Wine- The 2023 ‘Lyla’ is a stunning bottling that mainly composed of Sugarloaf Mountain Merlot (60%) and Sugarloaf Mountain Cabernet Franc (25%) with the remainder Tench Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. It is beautifully structured stuff with creme de violette and graphite flavors on the palate, alongside Middle Eastern spices and shades of dark chocolate shavings on the palate. 2023 PerUs ‘Alessio’ Red Wine- The 2023 ‘Alessio’ is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, coming from the Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard. An inky dark color, this takes on aromatics of creme de cassis and toasted hazelnut alongside suggestions of tar naan black licorice. The palate is rich and viscous with an herbal edge from the Cabernet Franc. Totally dazzling to enjoy now, enjoy this decadent treat now and over the next fifteen plus years to come.
