Today it is my pleasure to share the Rioja wines of Vina Bujanda. The winery is owned by the brother-and-sister team Carlos and Pilar Martínez-Bujanda Irribarria, whose family has been making wine since 1889. Viña Bujanda owns a total of 127 hectares distributed in plots in Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Alta, including an important estate in the vicinity of Logroño. Wines are made traditionally with American and French oak aging prior to bottling.
I love the new 2018 Vina Bujanda ‘Reserva’ Rioja (OB, 92) which is rich and viscous with a terrific acid backbone. Learn more at https://familiamartinezbujanda.com/en/vina-bujanda/ and here are my reviews of the new Vina Bujanda wines.
2021 Vina Bujanda ‘Crianza’ Rioja- The 2021 Vina Bujanda ‘Crianza’ Rioja comes from vines planted back in 1977. Orange peel and shades of white pepper combine with red cherry compote and loganberry notes on the nose. The palate is soft and juicy with a great sense of freshness and texture. Drink 2025-2031- 91
2018 Vina Bujanda ‘Reserva’ Rioja- The 2018 Vina Bujanda ‘Reserva’ Rioja comes from vines set on clay loam soils. This is rich and concentrated stuff with a refined mouthfeel. Dense black fruits parade with loamy soils and dried herbs with citrus rind accents on the palate. Delicious and ripe, enjoy now and over the next ten years. Drink 2025-2035- 92
