I have long admired the wines of Cuvaison. These were some of the wines that I bought for my personal collection more than twenty years ago. Steve Rogstad has been at the helm for more than two decades and has helped shape not only these wines but wines from this windswept region. Founded back in 1969, ten years later Cuvaison acquired 400 acres of highly prized land north of San Pablo Bay in the Los Carneros district of Napa Valley which is a site that is highly influenced by fog and cooler temperatures from the bay.
The new Cuvaison are outstanding. Check out the 2024 Cuvaison ‘Kite Tail’ Chardonnay (OB, 94) which is a treat to savor now. Learn more about this outstanding producer at https://www.cuvaison.com and here are the killer sparkling wine, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir releases by Cuvaison.
2025 Cuvaison Rose- Made from Grenache grapes, this 2025 Rose offers a soft mouthfeel on the approach. Laden with tension, texture and bright red fruits, with citrus rind notes, this is a beautiful bottling that is best not served too cold. Drink 2026-2032- 92
2024 Cuvaison ‘Kite Tail’ Chardonnay- The outstanding 2024 Cuvaison ‘Kite Tail’ Chardonnay was sourced from older Wente Clone vines at the estate vineyard. Salted peaches, juicy pear and shades of buttered French bread all mark the nose. The palate is rich, silky and refined, beautifully showcasing this salty terroir. Offering gorgeous length and weight, enjoy this beautiful bottling now and over the next eight to ten years. Drink 2026-2034- 94
2023 Cuvaison ‘Spire’ Pinot Noir- The outstanding 2023 Cuvaison ‘Spire’ Pinot Noir was sourced from the Tai Vineyard in the Carneros region. It is juicy, round and beautifully-weighted with serious concentration and power. Salted orange peel flavors combine with cran-cola and hints of blackberry compote on the plate. Considering the coolness of this vintage, this offers serious flavor density. Drink 2026-2036- 94
