Result of A Crush

December 5, 2017

One of the best values out of Walla Walla, Result of a Crush is a project created by Amanda Reynvaan and Angela Reynvaan Garratt, sisters of consulting winemaker Matt Reynvaan. The idea behind Result of A Crush was to produce terroir driven wines that are more readily available and affordable than the Reynvaan wines. Most of these wines are in the 20-30 dollar range. While they might be perceived as ‘Baby Reynvaan’ wines, each bottling is a serious, stand alone wine. Talking to Matt Reynvaan this summer about these wines, he talked about the effort in crafting these marvelous blends.

I was very impressed with the combination of weight and terroir in their red wines. An absolutely stunning Rose wine, the 2015 Result of A Crush ‘Summer Cuvee’ Rose (WWB, 91) is one to buy by the case, regardless of season. The 2015 Result of A Crush Red Wine (WWB, 92) shows marvelous intensity and richness,  yielding some really lovely stony character. In a similar vein, their 2015 Result of A Crush ‘Christmas Cuvee’ Red Wine (WWB, 92) is the best Christmas themed wine that I have sampled. This is a marvelous effort at this price point by superstar winemaker Matt Reynvaan. 2015 Result of A Crush ‘Summer Cuvee’ Rose- This pale colored Rose wine begins with aromas of guava, bright strawberry and bubblegum. The weight and structure here is outstanding, particularly considering the heat spikes during this warm vintage. Red cherry, guava puree and strawberry Starburst candy flavors persist. Drink 2017-2022- 91

2016 Result of A Crush ‘White Blend’ White Wine- The 2016 Result of A Crush ‘White Blend’ is a compelling combination of Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Viognier. Showing a deep, golden hue, the wine opens with a bouquet of lychee, roasted pineapple and Pazzaz apple. Showing really nice structure, this wine reveals flavors of banana, pineapple, lychee and Pink Lady apple, all leading to a long, cream and mineral driven finish. Drink 2017-2024- 91

2015 Result of A Crush Red Wine- A proprietary blend of Rhone varietals, based on the nose I would suggest this is rather Syrah heavy. One stony whiff takes you right to the Rocks District with umami, bacon fat, blood orange rind and horse manure aromatic that are seriously impressive. Silky smooth, this wine glides and reveals flavors of Parma ham, orange zest, cigar box and umami. The range here makes this irresistible. Drink 2017-2025- 92

2015 Result of A Crush ‘Christmas Cuvee’ Red Wine-  I don’t recall another Christmas wine made in Washington and I doubt one is made quite as well. The 2015 Result of A Crush ‘Christmas Cuvee’ begins with aromatics reminiscent of smoked brisket, cigar ash, wet stone and blueberry pie. There is a rather sterling minerality yielded from this hot vintage wine. Blackberry cobbler, wet rock, orange rind and Hoisin sauce flavors connect with the tension. This is another outstanding wine made by superstar winemaker Matt Reynvaan. While highly enjoyable in its youth, this will cellar well into the next decade. Drink 2017-2025- 92
