I love writing about wines that you may not always expect from a producer. Those little surprises make a winery really tick every box. For HALL, Cabernet Sauvignon has been their undeniable recipe for success. But they also have an incredible lineup of Sauvignon Blanc wines that some may have never tried.
Sauvignon Blanc is a varietal that is sometimes passed aside as not serious or complex. I think the range of this varietal can be nothing short of stunning. Those who have never had Didier Dagueneau wines from the Loire Valley, will no doubt be pretty surprised what this varietal can do. In Napa there are some stunning renditions of this varietal, and Sonoma can do just as well.
HALL makes two fantastic Sauvignon Blanc wines, one from Sonoma and another from Napa. The price is fantastic on both, these are great wines to enjoy for the final few warm days of summer. Here are my reviews of the beautiful new Sauvignon Blanc wines by HALL.
2018 HALL ‘Napa Valley’ Sauvignon Blanc- The 2018 Hall Sauvignon Blanc is a terrific effort by this talented winemaking team. On the nose this takes on an alluring bouquet of crushed white flowers with citrus blossom and shades of green apple. The plate combines wonderful freshness and soft texture with copious orchard fruits that combine with lemon oil and minerals. Enjoy this beautiful Sauvignon Blanc in the short term. 2019 HALL ‘Knight’s Valley’ Sauvignon Blanc- The 2019 ‘Knight’s Valley’ Sauvignon Blanc is a gogroues new effort from HALL. Aged for 10 Months in 20% New French Oak, the wine was sourced from the Blau Vineyard. The texture here is utterly sensational as this unveils layers of beeswax and honeydew melon that combine with minerals, lemon rind, kiwi and shades of challah bread on the palate. Dense and downright delciiuosu, this gorgeous new Sauvignon Blanc will cellar well over the next seven plus years. Drink 2020-2028- 93
