Great photo of Vital Wines founder Ashley Trout.

Vital Wines

November 17, 2023

Today it brings me great pleasure to present one of the most philanthropic wine brands of the United States. Started by the talented Ashley Trout, Vital Winery partners with a host of other wine industry entities, from coopers to other wineries, and a portion of the Vital Wines profits go to the SOS Clinic, a free, non-profit health care clinic in the Walla Walla area dedicated to helping all people receive free healthcare. I can’t think of any other Pacific Northwest winery that focuses on giving to this level. This is not only a visionary project but the new wines are seriously good. Ashley Trout got her start in the Washington wine industry at age 18. A fellow Whitman graduate, I had the chance to interview her and she has formerly been named by Wine Enthusiast as one of ‘the top 40 under 40 tastemakers.’

I love the new 2022 Vital  X The Walls Chardonnay (OB, 92) which is beautifully textured and shows great weight and poise. Learn more about this great new project winery at https://www.vitalwinery.com Here are the beautiful new wines by Vital Wines.

2022 Vital Wines X The Walls Chardonnay- This 2022 Chardonnay was made at The Walls. Coming from the acclaimed French Creek Vineyard, this offers plenty of weight with a refined texture. Baked apple and pear combine with baking spices, and shades of citrus blossom water on the palate. Really good now, this has both the stuffing and finesse to cellar well for another eight plus years to come. Drink 2023-2031- 92

2022 Vital Wines X Reininger ‘Dwelley Vineyard’ Dolcetto- This 2022 Dolcetto comes off wonderfully earthy aromatically with freshly tilled loamy soils, alongside bright Bing cherry and shades of Mandarin orange rind. The palate showcases plenty of juicy red cherry and pomegranate fruit flavors alongside good tension and texture. Drink 2023-2030- 91

NV Vital Wines ‘The Given’ Red Wine- The NV ‘The Given’ is a truly unique blend of 50% Syrah, with 34% Grenache, and small parts Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This comes off juicy and generous on the palate, with the bright red fruits from the Grenache really popping. Citrus rind accents and dusty soils accent this beautiful wine. Only 20 dollars. Drink 2023-2029- 91
