Dating myself, I’ve now tasted the wines from Columbia Crest for more than 20 years. For years I knew these wines were synonymous with value and I would go to the grocery store or wine shop and purchase these wines that continually over-delivered for the price. It is no surprise that Columbia Crest produced the #1 wine in the world years ago.
Founded in 1982, Columbia Crest is one of the longer-serving Washington wineries as their first wine release was back in 1987. Juan Munoz-Oca presided over these wines beginning in 2011 and then Katie Nelson was named new Columbia Crest winemaker before serving as head winemaker for Chateau Ste. Michelle.
The new wines were really good and offer some serious bang for the buck. Don’t sleep on the 2022 Columbia Crest ‘Grand Estates’ Chardonnay (OB, 91) which is one of the great Chardonnay values you will see in the marketplace. which is one of the best value Chardonnays out of Washington that you will find. I am enamored by the 2021 Columbia Crest ‘Walter Clore Reserve’ Red Wine (OB, 93) which is refined and elegant on the palate, with some good cellaring potential.
