Josh West crafts some outstanding wines for Elephant Seven.

Elephant Seven

May 29, 2024

Today we share a fantastic boutique winery of Walla Walla. Joshua West and his wife started Elephant Seven several years ago. Josh has a background in investment banking and has only has been winemaking on a full time basis for the past decade. He has previously worked for Whitehaven in New Zealand as well as interning at Figgins, Cadaretta, and Dusted Valley in Walla Walla. He now has a tasting room in downtown Walla Walla, as his wines show good depth and wonderful underlying finesse. The wines he made from the 2021 vintage are really outstanding.

He also has a deft touch to white wines and I love the new 2022 Elephant Seven ‘Blue Mountain Vineyard’ Marsanne (OB, 92) which is soft and bright with plenty of stony character and peach flavors. Even better is the gorgeous 2021 Elephant Seven ‘Blue Mountain Vineyard’ Syrah (OB, 94) which is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Josh West yet. Learn more about this exciting new Washington winery at https://www.elephantsevenwine.com/ Here are the new releases by Elephant Seven.

2022 Elephant Seven ‘Blue Mountain Vineyard’ Marsanne- The brilliant 2022 Elephant Seven ‘Blue Mountain Vineyard’ Marsanne is a fantastic new releases by Josh West. This is tension-filled Marsanne that was picked on the early side. Peach and gooseberry combine with shades of kiwi on the palate, with plenty of finesse. Drink 2024-2030- 92

2021 Elephant Seven ‘Les Collines Vineyard’ Syrah- The beautiful 2021 Elephant Seven ‘Les Collines Vineyard’ Syrah is inky in the glass, revealing beautiful aromatics of blueberry compote, leather, pipe tobacco and Hoisin sauce that take shape in the glass. The palate is soft and plush with a great sense of texture, weight and verve. Enjoy now and over the next eight years. Drink 2024-2032- 93

2021 Elephant Seven ‘Blue Mountain Vineyard’ Syrah- Coming from this site that is in the foothills o the Blue Mountains, this 2021 Syrah offers smoked meats and green olives on the palate, alongside black plum and plenty of stony minerals. Soft and round, showing beautiful purity of black fruit, this is a really enticing bottling that is showing marvelously right now. Drink 2024-2034- 94
