Here is the gorgeous and generous 2020 Altesino Brunello.

Altesino

July 10, 2025

Today we share the wines of Altesino, located in the eeastern hills of Montalcino near Siena in central Tuscany. At this location stands a 14th century-built Palazzo Altesi, home to the Altesino winery and a marvelous resort. Altesino was purchased in 2002 by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, owner of nearby Tenuta Caparzo. Today's winemaking team is led by Simone Giunti and Alessandro Ciacci. Currently they have over 100 acres under vine and produce roughly 22,000 bottles each year.

I adored the new wines, as the ’20 comes from a warm vintage. The 2020 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino (OB, 95) is a stunning wine with serious power and poise. Learn more about this famed Tuscan house at https://www.altesino.it/en/ and here are my reviews of the new Altesino wines.

2023 Altesino Rosso Di Montalcino- The 2023 Rosso di Montalcino has loads of power with ripe cherry and fig flavors. Medium to full-bodied, enjoy this killer value now and over the next few years. Drink 2025-2031- 91

2020 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino- A sensational warm vintage wine that is already drinking so well, the 2020 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino is really singing now at the five year mark. This takes on amazing aromatic range from tar and tobacco leaf to fresh Yakima cherry and sandalwood notes. The palate is powerful, rich and concentrated, with downright awesome texture and great underlying verve.  A joy to consume now, watch this evolve over the next fifteen plus years to come. Drink 2025-2040- 95
