‘Ace of Spades’ is one of the world’s most expensive Champagnes.

Armand de Brignac 'Ace of Spades' Champagne

December 5, 2022

Today we introduce a famed Champagne house which combines hip hop and the historic Cattier family. The family has a rich history as an elite Champagne house in the tiny village of Chigny les Roses as they have owned and cultivated family vineyards since 1763. Jean-Jacques Cattier oversees the Chateau's wine production with strictly limited annual yields. The Cattier cellars are among the deepest and oldest in the Champagne region and are classified by the Comité Interprofessional du Vin de Champagne and the Institut National des Appellations d'Origine. They have three styles of architecture represented in the caverns: Gothic, Renaissance, and Roman.

The ‘Ace of Spades’ brand by Armand de Brignac is owned by both LVMH and rapper Jay-Z. The champagne has for years been a fixture in Jay-Z’s music for years. Their flagship ‘Brut Gold’ first was produced in 2006. All and Armand de Brignac champagnes are made in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne, located in the Montagne de Reims region of Champagne. Fruit cones from the 30 plus hectares owned by the Cattier family. These wines are very expensive, starting at roughly 350 dollars retail. I love the NV Armand de Brignac ‘Ace of Spades Brut Gold’ Champagne (OB, 93) which is rich and layered with a seamless mousse. Learn more about this famous house at https://armanddebrignac.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Champagne-Armand-de-Brignac-Gold-Brut.pdf and here is my review of the beautiful new ‘Ace of Spades’ Champagne.

NV Armand de Brignac ‘Ace of Spades Brut Gold’ Champagne- The outstanding MV Armand de Brignac ‘Ace of Spades’ Champagne is a captivating blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier that comes from the 2009, 2010 and 2011 vintages. Given 9G/L dosage, this displays a very firm and refined mousse with layers of allspice dusted sourdough bread alongside lemon rind and Japanese pear tones on the palate. Finishing long with stony minerals, this is elegant champagne that is best enjoyed now and over the next decade. Drink 2022-2032- 93
