Today we share one of the outstanding producers out of Sonoma. Stonestreet sits on a 5500 acre mountain estate that towers high above the Alexander Valley in the Mayacamas Mountain Range. Jess Stonestreet Jackson and Barbara Banke established the estate in 1995, and their son Christopher Jackson and his wife Ariel continue the legacy today. I had a beautiful visit to this winery last spring and was once again reminded of the consistency of the Chardonnay wines that they produce. At the helm is winemaker Kristina Shideler, who has a longstanding history in the industry. She is former head winemaker at Arrowood before rejoining Stonestreet — first being a part of their winemaking team back in 2012.
I love the new wines that they produce. The marvelous 2022 Stonestreet ‘Estate’ Chardonnay (OB, 93) has gobs of tension and great weight fro this warm vintage. 2022 Stonestreet ‘Estate’ Chardonnay- The 2022 Stonestreet ‘Estate’ Chardonnay is a rich, viscous and also very fresh effort that comes from this hot vintage. Buttercream and mango notes parade with cardamom dusted pastry crust and juicy lemon with a dash of sea salt on the palate. Very complex and nicely weighted, enjoy now and over the next eight years. Drink 2025-2033- 93
2019 Stonestreet ‘Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon- The really good 2019 Stonestreet ‘Estate’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous wine that has a long way to go in the cellar. Rich cassis notes combine with green bell pepper, pipe tobacco and shades of boysenberry cordial on the palate. Dense and delicious with a refined mouthfeel and good earthy elegance, enjoy now and over the next decade. Drink 2025-2035- 93
